For the Biennale we collaborate with the Berber women’s cooperation Yagour for the production of rugs in Tighdouine, 1 h from Marrakech. It takes almost a month for the women to knit the rug. While knitting the signs of a drawing of 1670, representing the Moroccan dress from the point of view of Jan Luyken, a Dutch engraver living and working during the European wars of religion.
We analyzed the drawing with the women discussing different topics, for instance the situation of women in Arabic countries. The conversations are documented and filmed. The video can be seen sitting on the knitted carpet at the exhibition.
